Our hon'ble former Prime Minister, late. Indira Gandhi had initially nationalized 14 commercial banks to cater to the flow of credit in social activities, and also in rural developments. However, only after six years of this, the Prime Minister realized that this was no concrete plan and nothing was happening. Thus, she then came up with the RRB Act, 1976. There was something to uplift the poor, neglected and downtrodden people living in the rural areas of the country. Slowly but steadily, there were 196 banks in 615 different districts. The Union Bank was sponsoring three Banks in the state of UP at that time. Gomti Gramin Bank, Samyut Kshetriya Gramin Bank and Kashi Gramin Bank. These three banks were amalgamated and formed kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank in 2005. The bank, from its very starting point, had a strong base. The bank had started its journey with 232.50 crore fund and already had 648.27 crores deposited in the bank. The bank now has 459 branches and is working fine, catering to the needs of the needy.
