The Katihar District Co-operative Bank Ltd., Katihar be registered under the Bihar and Orissa Provincial Co-operative Bank on the 16th of March in 1914. The bank came to existence under the Cooperative Societies Act II in the year of 1912. Just after two years of the republication of the Cooperative Societies Act, the bank started its journey, which was going to be an overwhelming one in the coming years. Initially, the area of operation of the bank was both Bihar and Orissa. After 1936-37, when Orissa parted, the bank's area of operation became delimited to the state of Bihar only. Finally, it changed its name as the Bihar State Co-operative Bank on December 1950. The bank has started its journey with a share capital of 0.53 lacs, deposits of 2.44 lacs, and working capital of 2.98 lacs. The bank now has 14 branches, five of which are now into Jharkhand with the separation of Jharkhand in 2000.
