The Mann Deshi Mahila Sahakari Bank was set up in the year 1997. The bank came in existence when a welder name Kantabai shared her problem with the founder of the bank, Chetna Sinha. She was having difficulty keeping her money so that she could buy a tarpaulin for her home. So she wanted a place where she could keep her savings somewhere safe. It was then that the founder of the bank decided to open a bank for women like kantabai. The bank was first started with 1335 women customers with Rs 7.8 lakhs savings. It was the first woman member-driven and women member-owned bank. The main motive of the bank is to provide women with financial and business knowledge and support them to give them more control of their lives.
